Luxury Hotels in Brighton

Feb 2012 One of the most famous independent girl’s school is situated close to the Marina on the eastern side of the outskirts of Brighton. Roedean School is perched on the high point of the moor rising up from the city, stark, windswept and dominating in its position overlooking the sea. As well as offering academic subjects Roedean encourages a wide variety of extracurricular activities such as sports, martial arts, dance, riding, music and drama to develop a healthy spirit in young ladies.

Students attend from many different parts of the world and as the fees are very high it puts it amongst one of the most expensive schools in the country. As most families who send their daughter to Roedean are very wealthy, when they visit the area naturally they will want to stay in luxury 5 star hotels in Brighton. “The Lanes” are a picturesque shopping area characterised by narrow alleyways that follow the initial street plan of the original fishing village. There are predominantly clothing stores, jewellers, antique shops, restaurants and pubs to form a retail, leisure and residential area near the seafront.

Having an influx of visitors who are wealthy, by the law of supply and demand, Brighton and Hove have some of the best boutique shopping to make a visit a memorable one. In fact when I first saw The Lanes, it reminded me strongly of Mikenos in Greece, which was also once the haunt of the rich and famous and gradually became the gay capital of the Pelaponese. The North Laine area, is a retail, leisure and residential area immediately north of The Lanes and is a prime location for luxury hotels in Brighton. (The name “Laine” is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word to mean “fields”. North Laine contains a mix of businesses dominated by cafés, independent and avant-garde shops, and theatres. Churchill Square is an indoor shopping centre with over 80 shops, several restaurants and 1,600 car-parking spaces.

Further retail areas include London Road and Western Road. For those with money the choices are endless. The beach at Brighton is a huge shingle bank which seems a very unlikely place to go sea bathing, although it is sand when you go into the sea. Even though it does not have the attraction of golden sandy beaches for children and families to enjoy during the hotter weather, it has been awarded a blue flag.

Because of its limitations as a beach type holiday inevitably other attractions for the visitor has grown. The result is that Brighton is considered to be one of the UK’s premier night-life hotspots. Brighton is associated with many popular music artists and as such quality performers for shows would expect to stay in luxury hotels in Brighton while they are in town. The Brighton Festival occurs for three weeks of serious fun each year in May. Alongside runs Brighton Festival Fringe which has grown to be the second largest fringe festival in the world. With 165 events including 26 premieres and commissions, together the Royal Mile-esque outdoor performances, the population more than doubles during May.

Other festivals include The Great Escape, featuring three nights of live music in venues across the city; the Soundwaves Festival in June, which shows classical music composed in the 21st Century; Brighton Live which each September stages a week of free gigs in pubs to show local bands; Burning the Clocks, a winter solstice celebration; to become one of the most exciting and entertaining places in the UK.
